As a result, the <em>PATHS\u00ae\u00a0<\/em>curriculum has received high recognition and recommendations from a number of different sources (<a href=\"https:\/\/pathsprogram.com\/awards\"><em>PATHS\u00ae<\/em><\/a> recognitions).<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Summary<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A series of randomized controlled trials with intervention vs. control groups (using one year of <em>PATHS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em>\u00a0curriculum implementation with pre, post, and follow-up data) have been conducted over the past two decades. These have included three different populations including deaf\/hearing impaired, regular education, and special education-classified children (Greenberg &amp; Kusch\u00e9, 1993, 1998; 2004; Greenberg, Kusch\u00e9, Cook, &amp; Quamma, 1995; Kam, Greenberg, &amp; Kusch\u00e9, 2004; Riggs, Greenberg, Kusch\u00e9 and Pentz, 2006). Findings indicated that the <em>PATHS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em>\u00a0curriculum was successful in both significantly increasing protective factors for healthy development and in reducing behavioral and emotional problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Increasing Protective Factors<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2022 In clinical trials, compared to a randomized control group, children who received one school year of the <em>PATHS<\/em><sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0curriculum showed significant improvements such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students&#8217; ability to recognize and understand emotions<\/li>\n<li>Students&#8217; social problem-solving skills<\/li>\n<li>Teacher-rated prosocial behavior in the following domains: Self-control, emotional understanding, and ability to tolerate frustration.<\/li>\n<li>Planning skills when solving complex tasks<\/li>\n<li>Working memory<\/li>\n<li>Decreased impulsivity<\/li>\n<li>Reading achievement in deaf students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Reducing Maladaptive Outcomes<\/strong><\/span><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In clinical trials, compared to a randomized control group, children who received one school year of the <em>PATHS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em>\u00a0curriculum showed\u00a0significant reductions in:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teacher-rated aggressive and disruptive behaviors at post-test and one-year follow-up<\/li>\n<li>Student reported depression (among students who showed elevated levels at pre-test)<\/li>\n<li>Teachers-rated internalizing symptoms (sadness, anxiety, and withdrawal)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">PATHS<\/span><sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/em>\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Curriculum Outcomes<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nGrade 2 and 3 Intervention (After 1 Year of Intervention)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Special Needs Students<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<table id=\"wp-table-reloaded-id-1-no-1\" class=\"wp-table-reloaded wp-table-reloaded-id-1\">\n<tbody>\n\t<tr class=\"row-1\">\n\t\t<td class=\"column-1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome1-300x175.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"outcome1\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-136\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome1-300x175.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome1.png 648w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nChild Reported Depressive Symptoms <br \/>\r\n(Child Depression Inventory; Kovacs, 1992)<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome2-300x198.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"outcome2\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-137\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome2-300x198.png 300w, https:\/\/www.pathstraining.com\/main\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/outcome2.png 592w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\r\nTeacher Reported Externalizing Behavior Problems (Teacher Report Form of the Child Behavior Checklist; Achenbach, 1991)<\/td><td class=\"column-2\"><br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nSpecial needs students who received PATHS\u2122 showed decreased self-report of depressive symptoms.
